The 3 Best Ways to Wash your Period Underwear

There are so many different ways to wash your period underwear, and I’m going to walk you through 3 of my favorite methods. Hopefully, you can find a way to wash your period underwear that fits your lifestyle.

The Most Common Method for Rinsing Period Underwear

I think this is the method most women use, or at least it’s the one I hear about the most, and it’s pretty simple. After you’ve soiled your Pixie Period Underwear and are ready to put on a clean pair, make sure to rinse all the blood out in the sink or tub.

I’ve also done this in the shower, which honestly saves time and makes things really easy. I’ll just hop in the shower, throw my underwear on the shower floor, and squish them around with my feet while I shower. That might not be for everyone, but to each their own! It’s especially helpful if you’re short on time and already planning to shower anyway.

Once you’ve rinsed out most of the blood, you can throw them in your hamper until you’re ready to do laundry. Some women rinse their period underwear separately, while others wash them with the rest of their clothes. Personally, I throw mine in with the rest of my clothes since I get about 90% of the blood out during the rinse step. I haven’t had any issues with it, but again, there are so many different methods, so choose the one that works best for you!

With this method, you still rinse your underwear after it’s soiled. However, instead of letting the water go down the drain, you collect the rinse water in a bucket and use it to water your plants. Yes... the bloody water.

The Soak Method for Cleaning Your Period Underwear

I feel like this method is great if you don’t have a lot of time and don’t want to hand-wash your underwear every day.

Basically, you keep a bucket or container with a lid next to your toilet and fill it with water. When your period underwear is full, you simply place it in the bucket. With this method, you don’t need to rinse the underwear beforehand.

Once your period is over, you can dump the whole thing into the wash at once.

This method is super easy, but it does require you to own more period underwear since you’ll be washing everything together instead of day by day. However, it’s also the most hands-off method, and if you don’t want to deal with touching blood, this is probably the best option for you.
